Requirements for welding gloves
Hands and wrists should be protected during the welding process by welding gloves against the following hazards:
small splashes of molten metal, brief contact with limited flame exposure, convective heat/contact heat, UV rays from the arc, mechanical stresses Welding gloves are divided into two types:
Design A: low dexterity, design B: high dexterity e.g. for TIG welding DIN EN 12477 defines the performance requirements for welding gloves for mechanical and thermal resistance.
Tips for choosing the right welding gloves: Like all other protective gloves, welding gloves should be correctly labelled. In addition, sparks or small metal splashes should not be able to stick to seams, but should be able to roll off the glove well. The seams should be made of heat-resistant thread (e.g. Kevlar).
